America’s Got Patience
The first ones queued up Friday night at 8:30—a guard mentioned that she began work at 6:30AM and the overflow had already carried over into Civic Center Plaza by that early hour.We joked that we hoped it was worth it, sleep being a far better judge than what awaited the contestants.  But it got me thinking, what, if any, marketable talents do we have?  Questionable smartasserie, the knowledge and ability to recite some rude passages from New York School poets, or something useless about 19th century geo-politics.  Really, we’re just fine at parties.
Everyone gets the distraction they deserve.
