Its bearing, its bubble, its regal claim to boozedom.

“It’s the Water.”  Put us to shame, admen of another century.
I hasten to add that we 21st century whiz kids long for the ecumenical truth of such a motto, our world filled to overflowing with such vague entreaties to Live Strongly or Invent Everything.  We are left staring into a vacuum of the middling phrase where we ought to be staring down the sun of a dynamo.
Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Last night at Oakland’s exquisite Flora a similar lecture was given to a visiting New Yorker and a Rockridger.  This remains our front-runner for 2011 Drink of the Year, and we’re happy to report that East Coast correspondents agree.

Seeing these around more and more. Went to Martinez, California, once, looking for a Martinez. Came up dry, literally, figuratively. Or, really, figuratively twice over. I have had requests, from certain parties, that I employ commas with greater frequency and across multiple use cases. There is a plaque in Martinez, downtown, by the waterfront, that explains the city’s role in originating the drink that would become the Martini. This is dead history.

Sunday was Thanksgiving for booze, as I mentioned the other day.
My great-grandmother on my father’s side was a bootlegger, a necessity given the combination of many children and a deadbeat husband.  She was found out, and few people can agree whether it was then that she lost the house or the farm.  She lived to be 104.
